Overview

Integrating Pivot Interactives with Canvas and a rostering service (ClassLink or Clever) allows teachers to leverage a host of powerful features:

  • Pivot Interactives classes and student accounts are automatically created from the rostering service.

  • Connect those classes to Canvas for automatic grade syncing.

  • Single sign-on for students.

  • Students never need to leave Canvas to complete their work.

Step 1: Create a new Canvas assignment or edit an existing one

  1. Click Assignments and +Assignment. Or edit an existing assignment.

  2. Scroll to Submission Type and select External Tool.

  3. Click Find

  4. Scroll through the list and click Pivot Interactives,

  5. Click Select.

  6. (Optional) The first time you do this, you'll be prompted to log into your Pivot Interactives account.

    1. I've never used Pivot Interactives before - Click I have an existing Pivot Interactives account and click the login method for your school's rostering service.

    2. I've used Pivot Interactives Before - Click I have an existing Pivot Interactives account and click the login method that you've been using previously.

Step 2: Import your classes from the rostering service

You can skip this step if you have already imported your classes.

If you do not see the option to customize how sections are connected, then do not proceed. Your district will need to update the settings on the Pivot Interactives app within Canvas. Here are instructions you can send them: LINK

  1. Click Yes, customize how sections are connected

  2. Click +Add Pivot Interactives Class

  3. Click Add Class from Rostering Service. Note: if you had already imported your classes prior to this setup, then you can skip to the next step.

  4. Select the classes you wish to import from the rostering service.

  5. Click + Add Classes

Step 3: Connect your Canvas sections to the imported Pivot Interactives classes

The first time you link a Canvas assignment to a Pivot Interactives one, you'll be prompted to connect your Canvas sections to the Pivot Interactives classes you imported.

  1. A list of your Canvas sections will be generated. The top of each card has the name of the Canvas section with a list of Pivot Interactives classes below it. For each Canvas section, select the corresponding Pivot Interactives class that you have imported from the rostering service.

  2. Scroll down, click Connect Classes.

Step 4: Connect the Canvas assignment to a Pivot Interactives one

  1. If you previously assigned an activity, then click the assignment name, then Connect Assignment.

  2. Otherwise, click Add Pivot Assignment

  3. Find the activity you wish to assign in your library, then click Assign.

  4. (Optional) If you've not added any activities to your personal library yet, then click Pivot Interactives Library. Use the filters to find an activity. Click Preview to open a new tab and see the activity as a student would. Click Copy & Assign to copy the activity to your library and assign it to your sections.

  5. Make sure you've set the appropriate due dates, then click Assign. Note: due dates don't carry over to Canvas, so make sure you set them on the Canvas assignment as well.

  6. Click the name of the assignment you just created, then click Connect Assignment

  7. You'll be taken back to the Canvas assignment. To finish up, click Select

  8. Scroll down and click either Save or Save and Publish.
