Using Calculated Columns

The integrated data tables make it a snap to create columns based on calculations on other columns

The calculated column tool was designed using student feedback. Students can usually figure out how to make calculated columns on their own. But here are some tips to make it even easier.

  1. Click the three vertical buttons on the right of the column heading
  2. Select Insert Column Right
  3. Give the new column a name and units
  4. Click the three vertical buttons on the right of the column heading again
  5. Select Change Column Formula
  6. Use the calculator tool to create a formula
    • Select any column from the box on the right
    • Click the buttons on the calculator to create your formula
    • Use the C (clear) button to make changes
    • Click Go to complete the calculated column
  7. Calculated columns can be based on any column that is to the left of it in the data table
