It can be exciting to attend a summer session where you will be using the same tools as your students. Often, teachers LOVE to keep their logins and credentials the same for sites. However, if you have a teacher account, you probably noticed that you couldn't make a student account with the same login.

Here's how to register for a Summer Workshop class as a student:

Step 0: This step needs to be completed by the workshop instructor.

The instructor of the class will still need to share a join link with you. To access this link, click on the three dots to the right of the course and select 'Copy Link to Join Class.' A green success bar will appear when the link is copied. Share this link with your participants however you see fit.

Step 1: Click on the link to join the class and confirm that you're in the right course.

Clicking on the link will bring you to a "Join Class" page. You need to confirm two things:

  • The Class Name

  • The Instructor

If both of these are CORRECT, click "Confirm." If not, talk to your instructor to get the correct link.

Step 2: Create your FAKE account.

This is where most of the problems occur. Pivot Interactives assigns a role to your email: either student or instructor. An email cannot have BOTH roles. So, you will need to create a fake email for your course.

We recommend the format:

So, if I were making an account, I would use the email:

Any fake domain (the @.....com) will do. You could use the name of your school, your favorite color, or even "fake.com."

Additionally, if you have a GMAIL account, using the "+" at the end of your email header will route the emails to your primary account. For example, my email is "linda.detwiler@pivotinteractives.com." If I used "linda.detwiler+example@pivotinteractives.com," those emails would still direct to my Gmail account. Again, this only works with Gmail accounts.

Once you are done, save those login credentials somewhere so that you don't forget them.

Follow Up: I used my teacher's email by accident. What do I do now?

Don't worry. This is a common mistake. To release your email and allow you to make an instructor account, go to your profile by selecting your name in the upper right corner of your Pivot Interactives account, then select "Profile."

This will show you your profile details. Change ANY part of that email. Normally, we change the last letter of the email to a "z." For example, "example@example.com" would become "example@example.coz". This will update the email and release your preferred email, allowing you to make a new account with it.

As always, if you have any questions, click on the smiling blue chat bubble on the right, and our team would be more than happy to help!
